Coriolis Flow Meters in the

Food & Beverage Industry

Coriolis Flow Meters in the
EHEDG approved Coriolis flow meters are in the lead when it comes to food safety, and are therefore the flow meters of choice for food and beverage applications. Their hygienic design offers optimum safety andperformance.
In the food and beverage industry it is imperative that all risks of food contamination are minimized. One major risk factorfor contamination during production results from the design and construction of process equipment. Due to the continuous development of newfood processes and food products, the demand of the industry for hygienic and cleanable process equipment is ever-increasing. A poor hygienic design of the process equipment may enable microbes to survive andproliferate. This results in an increased demand of time-consuming cleaning, but may also be the cause of recall actions due to contamination. In a worst case scenario, poorly cleaned process equipment may posea health risk to customers.
The Sitrans F C Mass MC 2 Hygienic sensors have been designed in W 1.4435 / 316 L stainless steel eliminating the risk of corrosion or mechanical fracture caused by thermal stress/shock, cleaning agents, chemicals, and the high temperatures reached during SIP processes. The pipe hydraulics for the Coriolis pipe is designed without reductions and constraints. Manufactured with a low surface roughness (< 0.8ìm), it has obtained the EHEDG hygienic approval.
In order to address possible hazards when installing, wiring, and programming the Coriolis transmitter, the Siflow FC070 transmitter can be directly integrated into the line of Simatic PCS7 automation components. Alternatively it can be utilized as an autonomous stand-alonebatch system operating via Modbus interface, which includes two independent frequency/pulse/batch outputs, freely programmable to enable high speed batch control.
The Siflow FC070 offers a measurement accuracy of ±0.1% of the rated flow. Its accuracy is unaffected by changesin medium temperature, density or viscosity. The batch system consistsof a fully autonomous 2-stage batch controller with adaptive compensation for fine and coarse dosing. This feature allows for performing accurate dosing at high speeds. Batch cycle times are as short as 220ms,with a batch start delay of only 50ms.
Apart from mass flow rate, coriolis technology is capable of measuring a variety of other process parameters simultaneously. These parameters can include temperature, density and fraction, as well as the ability to distinguish between multiple phases in a mixture. By fully utilizing the multi-parameter measurement capacity of the coriolis flow meter, process instrumentationcan be reduced to an absolute minimum not only reducing costs but also minimizing potential contamination risks as less equipment means less survival opportunities for microbes.
