The process control system Simatic PCS 7 TeleControl integrates distributed, distant substations and a central control system to form a homogeneous overall solution. This allows integration with regard to operation and alarm signaling and reduces the risk of operating errors as well as engineering and servicing costs . In large-scale plants, a redundant configuration increases plant availability and redundant serverscompare their process values, curves and alarm statuses with each other. Communication with the external substations is performed over dedicated lines, dial-up lines, radio systems or with TCP/IP-based techniques, with either DSL or GPRS. Further processing and archiving of theraw data with time stamps from the substations are performed in the central PCS 7 TeleControl server. Its robust protocol can be implementedfor slow or sensitive transmission paths. The applications extend from the oil and gas industry – for compressors, pressure reduction, transfer and metering stations - through to the water supply and treatment sector.
