Pharmaceutical companies that manufacture medicines and healthcare products are always looking for new ways they can enhance productions technical ability, be it by improving manufacturing processes or by increasing efficiency. It is even better when they achieve both, which is what happened for Lanes Health, a leading healthcare manufacturer. Lanes Health used to subcontract-out the manufacturing of its tablet products. But now they manufacture all tablets in-house as well as producing additional products for other pharmaceutical companies. They manufacture many different healthcare products, including 15 different types in tablet form, plus many other tablets for its contract customers. Lanes Health is constantly upgrading its production facilities. One of the company’s latest upgrades is a new all stainless steel-mixerfrom Ytron-Quadro that offers multiple benefits for the production ofsolutions and suspensions used for film and sugar coated tablets. These benefits include faster mixing, ensured homogenous characteristics (even when iron and zinc oxides are used), and minimal air-intake resulting in much shorter waiting times; a combination that imparts enhanced quality control and higher throughput. The latter point is of great significance for Lanes Health, at the moment following further substantial investment in new faster tablet coating systems. The mixerdelivers dry ingredients directly to the mixing head where it achievesinstant wetting and absorption, avoiding the problems of surface retention. Ingredients are delivered to the mixing head via a hopper -fedByPass pipe. Furthermore the mixer features a lift for raising and lowering the mixer, fail-safe sensors to ensure both the mixing head andmixing vessel are located correctly, and a Marlin stainless steel motor that can be hosed-down in-situ. “The new Ytron mixer has helped significantly towards maintaining quality standards”, said Jason Tilley, Tablet Manufacturing Manager. “Its mixing is more efficient than theprevious process which in turn has boosted our output capability,” headded.
