Emerson and Cisco collaborate on open-standard wireless solutions
|

Emerson Process Management announced that it is collaborating with Cisco to offer open-standard solutions for wireless process and plant management applications that install easily and operate reliably in the challenging process manufacturing environment. Emerson, a global leader in process automation, and Cisco, a global leader in IT networking for industrial and business management applications, are combining their expertise and technology to deliver a complete solution that improves productivity, safety, and operational efficiency for manufacturing customers. First gas achieved from development on Netherlands continental shelf
|
Chevron Exploration and Production Netherlands B.V., a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, together with its joint venture partners, Dyas B.V., DSM Energie B.V. and EBN announced the successful production of first gas from the A12 field, part of its shallow gas development project in the A&B Blocks of the Dutch part of the Continental Shelf. Gas production from the field commenced on 20th December 2007; production is currently approximately 2.65 million/m3/day and is expected to ramp up to approximately 3 million m3/day in early 2008. The A12 central processing platform has a design processing capacity of 3.35 million m3/day. The A12 field is located in block A12 approximately 280 kilometers north of Den Helder and is the first stage of the multi-phase development of shallow gas fields in the A&B Blocks of the Dutch part of the Continental Shelf.

Atlas Copco Specialty Rental division receives triple certification
|

Atlas Copco Specialty Rental has been granted the triple certification ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 for Quality, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Management by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) for multiple sites. This multi-site certificate was officially handed over by Dirk van Bogaert and Lode Andries from Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) to president Horst Wasel. The triple certificate has a fundamental place within the Specialty Rental division to support its mission, showing commitment to quality of services, care for the environmental impact of operations and the health of employees and customers. The Specialty Rental division was created in 2006 by the Atlas Copco Group, within its Compressor Technique business area. It focuses on industrial applications where oil-free air and high pressure can be used, with petrochemical, chemical, oil & gas, food & beverages and automotive as its main applications.

Beijer Electronics acquires the Swedish company Westermo
|
Westermo develops and manufactures industrial data communications products, such as switches, routers, fiber optic modems and modems for local networks as well as for wireless communication, and has a leading-edge competence in industrial applications. "The acquisition of Westermo is a strategically important step in the continuing development of the Beijer Electronics group. Westermo's broad product portfolio and high organic growth complement and strengthen Beijer Electronics' offer within industrial automation and infrastructure applications", says Göran Sigfridsson, CEO of Beijer Electronics Group. Westermo has an estimated global market share of five per cent, with a strong presence in Europe where the major markets are serviced through wholly-owned subsidiaries. Westermo will form a new, third business area within Beijer Electronics Group. As of January 1, 2008, Beijer Electronics Group will consist of Westermo Data Communications, Beijer Electronics Automation and Beijer Electronics HMI Products.

ARC Advisory Group hosted the fourth annual Process Management Academy (PMA), January 28-30, 2008 in Düsseldorf, Germany. This event brought together more than 300 manufacturers and suppliers to learn how intelligent automation can help optimize performance in process plants and to network with others to discuss common issues. Supported by 23 global technology leaders, international media, and major industry associations including NAMUR, PMA extended across a broad scope of industry topics and addressed a pan-European audience. The event offered a platform for presentations about case studies, technology trends, best practices and strategies for success, accompanied by informative exhibits. Using basic automation technologies to achieve Operational Excellence (OpX) to succeed in today's flat world was the recurring theme of PMA 2008.
