BASF Catalysis Research supports green research
|

BASF Catalysis Research has made a three-year research commitment of Euro 440,000 to the Earth and Environmental Engineering Department of Columbia University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science for graduate and post-doctoral studies into environmentally-benign technologies utilizing heterogeneous catalysts. The program will support the research of four Columbia students exploring promising areas of renewable energy, pollution control and catalysts for the hydrogen economy. "The program is directed toward ‘green/sustainable’ technology and pollution abatement - issues that are of great importance to the world, to Columbia and to BASF," explains BASF scientist Robert Farrauto, Ph.D. "Environmental technologies are a significant portion of BASF’s business, especially as they relate to emissions reduction from autos, trucks, buses and other vehicles and devices
powered by internal combustion engines."

Emerson announces contest for wireless innovators
|

Emerson Process Management is announcing the Smart Wireless Innovators Contest to recognize customers for innovative applications of the company's Smart Wireless solutions.
"We frequently have customers trialing our Smart Wireless technologies for one reason, then finding many other good uses once they get it up and running," said Peter Zornio, chief strategic officer for Emerson Process Management. "We are introducing this contest and award to celebrate the innovative spirit of those finding new and exciting ways to experience the value of reliable, secure and easy-to-use wireless." Open globally to all manufacturing customers, the contest will run until 31. March 2008. A panel of customer peers will judge the entries, and award prizes in two categories: Most innovative use of wireless technologies; and Greatest business impact from using wireless. To qualify for the contest, applications must include at least five of Emerson's Smart Wireless instruments with a 1420 Smart wireless gateway or a ROC800-series Remote Operations Controller with on-board wireless gateway, and AMS Device Manager software with wireless PlantWeb interface.

Flowserve Corporation Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary
|

Flowserve Corp. a global leader in fluid motion and control products and services, celebrated the 10th anniversary of its incorporation and listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on July 20. In honor of that event, company President and Chief Executive Officer Lewis M. Kling and other company representatives visited the NYSE and rang the closing bell to end the trading session. While some of Flowserve's leading heritage brands trace their roots back more than 200 years, Flowserve was created in 1997 through the merger of two then leading fluid motion and control companies-- BW/IP and Durco International. "When Flowserve was created in 1997, it comprised more than 7,000 employees in 28 countries," said Kling. "Since that time, we have almost tripled our sales and doubled the size of our employee base and geographic reach to include more than 14,000 employees in more than 55 countries. We have combined the legacy of our heritage brands into something that is much stronger than the sum of the individual parts."

Krohne will manufacture flowmeters for Honeywell
|

The announcement was made to approximately 1,200 participants at this year's Honeywell Users Group Symposium in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. At the event, Honeywell presented
its new flowmeter line, VersaFlow, which is to be supplied by Krohne on the basis of a private label agreement. The product groups involved are the electromagnetic, Coriolis, ultrasonic and Vortex flowmeters. This cooperation is an important milestone for the Duisburg-based manufacturer of process measuring technology, as Stephan Neuburger, Managing Director of the KROHNE Group, explains, adding: "Honeywell will increase its chances of success in so-called MAV (Main Automation Vendor) projects with the VersaFlow line and its complementary products and systems." Revathi Advaithi, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Field Solutions: "By combining Honeywell’s global sales and support network with Krohne’s expertise, we’re giving our customers exactly what they want - a single source for Level 1 field devices and system solutions."

Beijer Electronics has announced the acquisition of Elektronik-Systeme Lauer GmbH & Co. KG in Unterensingen, Germany. Conny Persson, CEO of Beijer Electronics Products AB,
