Krohne wins Water Industry Innovation Award
|
Krohne’s Waterflux 2070 electromagnetic flowmeter was announced as the winner of the Innovation award at the Aquatech trade show in Amsterdam in September. The event is billed as "the world’s leading trade exhibition on process, drinking, and waste water."
The jury making the award called the Waterflux 2070 "a water meter that represents a revolutionary double solution." It measures water flow in either direction, and it has no obstacles in the water flow."
The jury said "The truly groundbreaking aspect of Waterflux 2070 is its use of wireless GMSS or GPRS communication systems to transmit the measurements and the fact that it has a self-sustained battery, making power supply redundant. This allows a meter to be fitted at any plant, distribution network or even consumer’s location. Data is received wirelessly at a central office or control room. This system is expected to be applied in numerous different ways in the future."

Industrial PC Set for Dramatic Growth in Developing Countries
|
The market for industrial PCs in developing regions is predicted to grow significantly, reaching €740 million by 2010, says a forecast report from IMS Research. Developing areas such as Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Russian Federation are expected to experience annual growth rates in excess of 13%.
The IMS report says an increasing number of manufacturing companies are relocating to these areas because of their comparatively low labour costs and at the same time, many of the countries are benefiting from strong economic expansion. Both of these factors contribute to growth in sales of industrial PCs.
"Regional growth is driven by the predicted economic performance of each region and the number of machines and systems which are expected to be manufactured within the region over the forecast period," said Mark Watson, IMS market analyst and report author. "The influx of foreign manufacturing companies to these developing regions is therefore having a very positive effect on the market for industrial PCs," he added.
