The V-Cone Steam Flow Meter delivers precision steam flow measurementin a space-saving design. It provides flow measurement in steam process lines connecting boilers with process equipment or HVAC systems. Theself-conditioning flow design eliminates most of the straight-pipe requirements typically needed by many flow meter technologies. In a 0.9msteam process line the V-Cone requires only 0-3 pipe (0-2.7m) straight diameters upstream and 0-1(0-0.9m) downstream from the meter. Nearlyall other types of flow meters require as many as 9.1m pipe straightdiameters upstream and 4.5m downstream. The meter operates over a wideflow range of 10:1, while maintaining its +0.5% accuracy and +0.1% repeatability and supports line sizes from 1.2 to 300cm. The Flow Meterfeatures a centrally-located cone inside a tube which interacts withthe fluid flow and reshapes the velocity profile to create a lower pressure region immediately downstream. The pressure difference can be measured via two pressure sensing taps, incorporating it into a derivation of the Bernoulli equation allows the fluid flow rate to be determined.
