The Pulsarguard 2010 acoustic monitoring unit gives non-invasive and wear-free flow detection on key items of production equipment. In any mixture where dry ingredients are used in bulk, there is a potential for the flow to block. The unit warns of any interruption to flow, by listening to the flow of material inside the pipe. It can detect flow signatures even in a noisy factory environment and against a backgroundof other vibration. The sensor is about the size of a computer mouse, and is bolted into place on the outside of the process pipework. No part of the instrument protrudes into the flow, making it completely hygienic. The sensor is DC powered and generates a 0-10V signal . It contains a piezo ceramic crystal that gives an electrical output depending on the minute vibrations caused by ultrasonic activity. The sensorlistens to noise caused by impacts, cavitation and friction over a wide band width of 100-600kHz. An amplifier increases the signal envelopes it to give a smoothed version of the high frequency signal. The output is a varying voltage ( 0 to 10V ) with a time constant of 100uS.
