modernising process control The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group says it is now offering to supply plant operators with tailor-made migration solutions for step by step modernisation of process control systems.
With the help of a newly developed conceptfor step-by-step integration, visualisation systems or automation, Siemens says that components can be gradually replaced by new products and systems. Migration of the plant data can also mean that most of theengineering knowledge is retained in the new structure. The modernisation of visualisation, instrumentation and control, and automationequipment can be carried out separately, step-by-step or for the wholeof the plant. Siemens says that its system can help the plant operator to evaluate the plant and to prepare an individual migration strategy based on tool-supported plant-data migration while also providing support. Operator control and visualisation systems, instrumentationand control technology as well as automation components have shorterinnovation cycles than the plant in which they are used. One of the benefits stated is that with the help of step-by-step migration, production plants can be modernised individually according to needs. Thenew functions of already migrated parts of the installation, are immediately available for running the installation. The interfaces needed for further modernisation steps are also prepared in advance. Due to all these elements Siemens says that expensive temporary equipment is unnecessary and plant shutdowns and the associated high-cost productioncosts can be reduced.
